Often times as communicators, pastors sometimes have a gift of making the simple so complex. Our roles though as we communicate should be to make it simple for the people to whom we speak.
Three tips for you to use to make things simpler in planning for your next presentation are:
1. Before you plan your next message, answer this question:
"If I can only get one point across to the exclusion of all else, what would it be?" Pay attention to that. Let go of the rest.
2. Don't speak over everyone's head.
Edit your language--in length as well as terminology--so a 9 year-old can understand it. Then everyone around you will know that you understand it, too.
3. When you catch yourself wanting to add too much information, go back and ask yourself the question in #1.
